We hebben geen meer de Nederlandse klassen!

"We have no more Dutch classes!"

Heather and I finished our last Dutch classes this past week, (well, technically Heather has 1 more - but close enough), and to celebrate we invited both of our classes to our house for an International Potluck. My class came on Saturday evening and hers came on Sunday. Both evenings were very fun, and they were very different from one another.

My class spent the night in the family room, eating, talking, and playing games. It was really fun and relaxed. We had Chinese chicken wings, English shepherds' pie, Romanian green bean casserole, Italian lasagna, and an Iraqi dish made of rice wrapped in grape leaves.

We couldn't find a deck of playing cards, so we used Uno cards to play Spoons. It got pretty competitive, but unlike with our College and Career class, no blood was drawn, though Heather did get a bit of a scratch.

Unfortunately, only about half of my class could come, but it was a great evening.

Then Sunday night, Heather's class came over. We're not sure if it was because her 2 teachers came (the first teacher fell and broke her hip while riding her bike on the icy sidewalk this winter and had to have a replacement) or what exactly was different, but it was much more formal and organized. We spent the evening eating around the table, and just talking, but we all had a great time.

We had Hungarian potato pancakes with cherries, a Polish sauerkraut dish, a Romanian chicken vegetable salad, Dutch hutspot (mashed potatoes with carrots and onion mashed in) with meat balls and sausage, quiche and a cherry pineapple cheesecake from our French friends, who also brought french champagne to toast the end of our course and to share that they are now expecting a child!


It was a great evening to talk together, and we are excited about how this opens doors for us to continue the relationships with our classmates, even though our courses are complete.


Also, on Saturday afternoon, before the 1st potluck, Heather and the kids went with Kim for a walk on the beach. Though it was a bit chilly, it was nice to be out on the beach walking through the sand without huge crowds.
